The deceased have been identified as Urmila Bhatra (13) and Hiradei Bhatra (12) of Temera village under Kosagumuda police station limits in the district.
As per reports, four minor girls had gone to a farmland near the village to pluck spinach this morning. While they were plucking the spinach, heavy rainfall started following which they took shelter under a nearby tree where lightning struck, leaving three of them critically injured.
The locals rescued the minor girls and rushed them to a Government Hospital in Kosagumda where the doctors declared Urmila and Hiradei as “brought dead”.
Another girl, identified as Lata Keunt (13), was battling her life at the Kosagumda Hospital, when the last reports came in.
After getting information, Kosagumuda Police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter.
Meanwhile, the locals demanded the Government to provide an adequate compensation to the family members of the victims.
