Bengaluru, Jan 12: Union Minister Shripad Naik was injured while his wife and an aide died in a road accident near Ankola in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka on Monday night, an official said.
Naik, who is the Union Minister of state for AYUSH (Independent) and Defence is out of danger. He is being treated at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim.
The Minister’s wife Vijaya suffered head injuries and died while being brought to a private hospital in Ankola. His aide, Deepak, died in a government hospital.
The Minister was travelling from Yellapur to Gokarna in the State when the accident occured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant to ensure proper arrangements for the treatment of Shripad Naik at Goa.
Ankola police have registered a case in connection to the road mishap.
