As per reports, at least six inhabitants of Haladikunda village under Mathili police station limits in the district died in just 10 days owing to the mysterious disease.
Today, one Masa Madakami of Haladikunda village died while he was being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Malkangiri from Mathili Sub-Divisional Hospital.
“All the victims had suffered fever and sudden swelling in their hands and legs. So far six people have died in the village. We are panic as more people in the village are also suffering from such fever,” said a villager.
Though the exact reason behind the deaths is yet to be ascertained, a team of doctors from Mathili Sub-Divisional Hospital has reportedly reached the village to conduct examination.
On the other hand, the locals still believe in quack treatment which has raised concern for the district administration.
Meanwhile, a quack, identified as Narendra Madri of Salimi village under Mathili police limits, has been arrested after he was allegedly caught selling medicines to the affected people.
