--UGC funds of Rs 5 crore availed to the Utkal University for distribution of tabloids. However, the university has utilised Rs 2.5 crore only.
Bhubaneswar, Sep 23: Educationists have resented idling of UGC funds availed to the Utkal University for distribution of tabloids to students belonging to economically weak families as part of online teaching programme during Covid19 pandemic.
According to sources, the Utkal University had got Rs 5 crore from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to provide tabloids to poor family students in remote areas in Odisha to help them get online teaching at an ease during Covid19-related lockdown. However, the university has utilized Rs 2.5 crore and the rest amount of Rs 2.5 crore has remained unspent.
“Analysis says no university from Odisha has been able to find a place in the All-India University Rank. Utkal University has been placed at 87. Students have not performed to their expectation level as they have faced difficulties in getting online teaching. I expect the Utkal University spend the unspent UGC money and provide tabloids to eligible students at the earliest,” urged an educationist.
