Baripada, May 2: At least three cops including an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) sustained injuries after unruly crowd attacked a police team which had reached to stop Chaiti Parba celebration flouting Covid-19 norms in Udala area in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
As per the report, Sarat Police carried out a raid in Dewanbahali village last night after getting a tip-off that Chaiti Parba (a festival of Odia Chaitra month) was underway in the area with a presence of over 2000 people.
However, after police reached the spot and tried to stop the celebration, a group of people went berserk and started using abusive languages to the cops. As they protested the crowd thrashed them black and blue in which ASI Biswajit Das Mohapatra sustained critical injuries. Two other policment were also hurt.
The mob even attacked the police van and ransacked in anger.
Biswajit was first rushed to Udala Sub-Divisional hospital and then shifted to Baripada DHH for treatment as his condition deteriorated.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far.
