Sambalpur, Sep 17: Even as the water level in the Hirakud water reservoir is receding in view of less rainfall in upper catchment area of the Mahanadi, excess floodwater was still being released to the Mahanadi, according to information.
The water level was recorded at 628.83 feet at 6 am today while the dam has maximum water holding capacity of 630 feet. The reservoir was receiving 4,78,203 cusec water from the upper catchment area and releasing 4,87,203 cusec water into Mahanadi through 28 gates, informed the authorities.
According to a statement released by the SRC late last night, water level of the Mahanadi, Devi, Ib, Kushabadra Brahmani and Baitarani was on the decline, while Budhabalanga and Vansadhara were in the spate at some places.
