Cuttack, Feb 19: Locals were left in a state of panic after a wild elephant strayed into the second campus of Ravenshaw University in CDA area of Cuttack town in the wee hours on Friday.
The pachyderm, a tusker made its way into the campus by breaking portion of the boundary wall and was spotted by some local residents of Sector 13 area.
Later, Forest Department officials were intimated about the matter.
Notably, this is not for the first time that a wild elephant has sparked panic in the Millenium City. Earlier, in February 2014, an elephant herd was seen near Brajabiharipur under ward No-3 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) limits. It had crossed Mahanadi river in the early hours to make an entry into the city outskirt.
Similarly, a herd of 11 elephants had entered Hadiapatha of the delta in December 2013.
Forest Department officials are seeing the food crunch for wild animals as the chief cause of jumbo incursion into the new areas of the city.
