The victim’s husband also sustained critical burn injuries in the attack of his family members in attempt to save his wife.
As per the report, the victim woman identified as Basanti Naik had married to Tikeswar Naik of Chasagurujana village three years ago. However, her in-laws started torturing her physically and mentally to bring more dowry from home a few days later.
“The torture for dowry crossed all limits when Basanti failed to have a child long after her marriage. Her father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-laws and their wives used to beat her for not being able to conceive. Worried over the humiliation she used to come to my house in regular intervals and stay with me,” said Basanti’s mother.
“I had sent my daughter to her in-laws’ house last night along with her husband but at around 8 am in the morning today, she was attacked by hot water and the tied to a pole to set afire by dousing with kerosene. As Basanti’s husband saved her, he was also faced the ire of the attackers,” she added.
The couple has been admitted to Pallahara Sub Divisional Hospital for treatment post the attack.
Police have launched an investigation based on the complaint of the victim woman’s mother in connection with the case.
