The deceased has been identified as Ritamandi Pradhan.
According to a complaint filed by Ritarani’s brother, Ritamani had married Krupasindhu Pradhan of Begunia Nuasahi in the year 2020. As demanded, Ritarani’s father had given Rs 50,000, gold ornaments and furniture to the bridegroom’s family. But later, the in-laws asked Ritarani to bring Rs 2 lakh more as dowry from her parents. They tortured Ritarani both physically and mentally many times as she failed to meet their dowry-demand. Once, the matter was also settled through a mediator.
A month back, Ritarani came back parents’ home as she could not bear the torture of in-laws. On December 2, she returned in-laws’ house through a mediator. However, Ritarani’s mother-in-law informed her parents that their daughter committed suicide by hanging in the midnight.
But Rirarani’s brother alleged that their daughter was murdered and then hanged by in-law family members.
Acting on the complaint filed by Ritarani’s brother, local police have detained her husband and interrogated him in presence of a magistrate.
