The police have detained the accused driver and two staff members of the 108 ambulance in this connection.
As per reports, Geeta Rani Barik of Rambila under the Bhadrak rural police station limits in the district jumped from a running ambulance near the Canal Chhak of Charampa in the district last night as the driver was allegedly taking the ambulance to Balasore route instead of Cuttack even though she and her husband Sanatan Barik requested the driver and other staff members to stop the vehicle.
Geeta Rani said that their son was undergoing treatment at the District Headquarter Hospital in Bhadrak. However, her son was referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.
Subsequently, the couple called a 108 ambulance to take their son to SCB hospital in Cuttack.
The driver of the ambulance however diverted the route on the highway and was heading towards Balasore. Soon, Sanatan and Geeta Rani requested the driver and staff members of the ambulance to stop the vehicle and move towards Cuttack.
However, the driver didn’t stop the vehicle instead he allegedly told the couple that they will reach at right place. Then, Geeta Rani and her husband cried for help and screamed from the window door.
At Charampa, locals noticed something messy and followed the ambulance. At that time, Geeta Rani jumped from the ambulance from the window. Following which, the locals stopped the ambulance and alerted the police.
Geeta Rani reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Later, the local police reached the spot and detained the accused driver and two other staff members of the ambulance and took the trio to their custody.
Meanwhile, the local administration arranged another ambulance and sent the patient and his parents to the SCB hospital in Cuttack.
