Khordha, Apr 3: In another incident of man-animal conflict, a woman died and three others sustained critical injuries as a tusker (male elephant) attacked them at Ramchandi village under Malipada area in Khorda district early this morning.
While all the injured persons were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khorda, one of them was later shifted to Bhubaneswar as her condition deteriorated.
According to reports, the women were standing on the village road when the tusker came rushing in and attacked them all of a sudden. It held a woman by its trunk and threw away, killing her on the spot. The tusker them attacked the other three women.
Following in the incident, tension ran high in the area as villagers came in large numbers and sat on the village road. They blamed forest officials for death of the woman and injuries caused to others. They demanded adequate compensation for family of the deceased and free treatment for the injured.
Meanwhile, forest officials have reached the village and assured the villagers that all support will be given as per the legal provisions.
