Keonjhar, Dec 10: A large number of wood logs worth lakhs of rupees were seized from Champapal village under Deogan forest range in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, Deogan forest personnel and Ghasipura police jointly conducted raids in the village and seized a large amount of wood logs.
“After getting the information that wood smugglers have cut down a large number of trees and put them in a field near Champapal village, we immediately informed Ghasipura police and conducted raids jointly in the area,” said a forest official.
The timber smugglers reportedly escaped from the spot, leaving logs behind in a field.
“The seized wood logs have been shifted to the range office. The exact market price of the wood logs is not ascertained yet, but it will be around some lakhs of rupees. Further investigation is on,” he added.
