Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro administered the oath to the two MLAs at his chamber in the Assembly premises at around 11 am.
It may be noted that Swarup Kumar Das and Bijaya Shankar Das had emerged victorious in the by-polls held on November 3, which were necessitated after deaths of incumbent MLAs Madan Mohan Datta of BJP (Balasore Sadar) and Bishnu Charan Das of BJD (Tirtol) due to prolonged illness. Votes were counted on November 10 and results were published on the same day.
The two MLAs, who were sworn-in as members of the House today, would attend the Winter Session (Fifth Session) of the 16th OLA beginning November 20 (Friday).
The Winter Session has been scheduled to sit for 40 working days to meet the 60-day sitting a calendar year norm.
The first Supplementary Budget of the current 2020-21 financial year will be presented on the first day of the sitting i.e. November 20. Discussions on the Demands for Grants of the Supplementary Budget will be held for three days from November 26 to 28.
