“The proposed hockey stadium in Rourkela will be India's largest hockey stadium. It will come up in Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) campus in the steel city. The construction works will be completed within record time of one year," said Mohapatra.
Spread over 15 acres of land, the new stadium will be the second venue for the Men's Hockey World Cup 2023.
The 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup is scheduled to be held at the iconic Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar and the new stadium in Rourkela.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in December last year announced setting up world-class hockey stadium in Rourkela, which would be the biggest stadium for Hockey in India with a sitting capacity of 20,000.
“As a tribute to the contribution of Sundargarh to Indian Hockey, I would like to announce that we will build a new International level Hockey Stadium in Rourkela with a seating capacity of 20,000,” the Chief Minister had said.
