Odisha CM congratulates Dutee Chand on being nominated for BBC Indian Sportswoman of Year award
Bhubaneswar, Feb 9: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday congratulated India’s fastest woman Dutee Chand on being nominated for BBC Indian Sportswoman of the year award.
In a tweet, The Chief Minister said, "Congratulations Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand on being nominated for BBC Indian Sportswoman of the year. Wish her the very best and wish her to keep inspiring.”
Chand, ace sprinter from Odisha, has been nominated for the BBC Indian Sportswoman award along with four other contenders for 2021, according to a report published in bbc.com.
The other four contenders for the award are shooter Manu Bhaker, chess player Koneru Humpy, wrestler Vinesh Phogat and Indian hockey team captain Rani.
The five sportswomen who received the most number of votes by jury members have been nominated for public voting online.
Voting is open until Wednesday, 24 February at 18:00 GMT and the winner will be announced on Monday, 8 March at a virtual ceremony in Delhi and on the BBC Sport website, the report said.
The accolade honours the contributions of Indian sportswomen and celebrates the achievements of women in sport in the country, it added.
Indian badminton star and Olympic silver-medallist PV Sindhu won the inaugural edition of the award which was launched in 2000.
