Kalahandi/Cuttack, Mar 21: One person was killed while seven others sustained critical injurie in two separate road mishaps in Kalahandi and Cuttack districts.

In the first accident, one person lost his life while six others sustained injuries after the SUV they were travelling in overturned near Chiliguda village on National Highway 26 under Koksara Police Station in Kalahandi district.

The deceased has been identified as Bhajan Kar of Baragaon under Junagarh Police Station.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the victims were returning home from a wedding procession. Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV lost control over the wheels and the vehicle overturned near Chiliguda village. Following the incident, Bhajan died on the spot while six others identified as Subhas Khamari, Bablu Harijan, Sumant Kara, Dharmaraj Kara, Arup Khamari, and Tofan Sunani sustained injuries.

Soon after the accident, police with the help of local villagers admitted the injured persons to Community Health Center (CHC) in Koksara.

Worth mentioning, the victims were returning to their village from a wedding in Kerendul, Chhattisgarh.

In a similar incident, an oil tanker collided head-on with a paddy-laden truck in Cuttack district. In the collision, the oil tanker was completely destroyed, and its driver was critically injured.

On being informed, firefighters and police arrived at the scene and rescued the driver, who was trapped inside the damaged oil tanker.

Reportedly, major mishap was averted as there was no oil in the tanker at the time of the accident. On the other hand, the paddy-laden truck spilled all its paddy onto the road.

Police have registered a case and initiated a probe into the accident.
