Puri, May 28: The holy Rath Yatra preparations are in full swing as artisans work tirelessly on the majestic chariots. The construction activities have reached their peak after its commencement on May 1 – a day after Akshaya Tritiya, involving meticulous carpentry, fitting of wheels, and final detailing.

The three massive chariots, which will carry Lord Jagannath (Nandighosa), Balabhadra (Taladhwaja), and Subhadra (Darpadalana), are undergoing structural work, including pole placement and crucial fittings.

So far, 39 wheels have been completed, with three more nearing final construction. The sacred ‘Akha Chaka’ (wheel integration) is set to be completed by the auspicious occasion of ‘Shitala Shasthi.’ Over 200 artisans are actively engaged in bringing these grand wooden structures to life.

Apart from chariot construction, arrangements for Snana Yatra, the significant ritual on June 11, are also being finalised. Following this ceremonial bath of Lord Jagannath, devotees will flock to Alarnath Temple in Brahmagiri for darshan starting June 12.

Acknowledging the surge in pilgrim footfall, Puri district administration, along with the local police, is closely monitoring crowd management, traffic regulations, and security measures to ensure smooth proceedings.

Authorities are strategizing structured darshan arrangements and taking into account rising temperatures to provide relief for devotees. A special coordination meeting involving district officials, temple trustees, and servitors was held recently to discuss logistical aspects.

With enthusiasm rising among devotees, the holy Rath Yatra preparations symbolize the deep devotion and elaborate efforts that make this festival one of the most awaited events in Odisha.
