Bhubaneswar, July 29: The twin city Commissionerate police Thursday busted a criminal gang by arresting six persons and seizing ammunition from them in the capital city.

The criminals were found to have procured illegally manufactured guns from Bihar.

The arrestees have been identified as mastermind Rashmiranjan Swain of Marshaghai, Kendrapada, and his associates Utkal Keshari Khuntia of Patkura, Krushna Chandra Jena, Chiranjib Jena and Mahammad Samser of Niali and SK Azharuddin of Jatni.

The police have seized three 7.65MM Semi-Pistol, one revolver, one single-round gun, nine bullets, and a bike from the miscreants.
The accused were involved in criminal activities like collection of extortion, illegal sand mining, forcible land possession, and morrum theft. They even attacked another giant of criminals by taking supari from another group. They also have murder and kidnapping cases against them, police said.

Mahammad Samser was listed as the most wanted criminal. He has as many as eight cases filed against him at different police stations in Bhubaneswar and Jatni areas. He reportedly shot dead a drug dealer in Khordha district last month.

Criminal cases have been filed against Utkal Keshari Khuntia at different police stations in Bhubaneswar and Marshaghai. He allegedly killed a member of another gang by taking Supari in 2023.

As many as five criminal cases have been filed against gangster Rashmi Ranjan Swain.

Police said the criminals would be brought on remand for interrogation.
