Bhubaneswar, Sep 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert as two low-pressure systems are expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, potentially bringing heavy rainfall and stormy conditions to parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

The first low-pressure area has already formed over the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above sea level. This system is likely to move west-northwestward over the next 24 hours, heading toward the northwest Bay of Bengal.

A second low-pressure system is expected to develop around September 25 over the east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal. This system may intensify into a depression by September 26 and move toward the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coast. It is likely to cross the coast around September 27, bringing widespread rainfall and gusty winds.

Meteorologists warn that the twin systems could disrupt normal life, especially during the festive Durga Puja period. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and coastal residents are urged to remain alert.

The IMD has predicted rough to very rough sea conditions and heavy rainfall across coastal districts.
