New Delhi, Aug 19: In a landmark infrastructure move, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the construction of a 6-lane access-controlled ring road spanning 111 kilometers from Rameshwar to Tangi, designed to ease traffic congestion around Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in Odisha, officials said.

The ambitious project, valued at Rs 8,307 crore, is set to redefine regional connectivity and catalyze economic growth across Odisha.

The ring road will serve as a high-speed corridor, significantly boosting average vehicle speeds and reducing travel time between key urban and industrial zones. With access-controlled design, the road promises safer and more efficient transit for both passenger and freight vehicles.

Strategically aligned with India’s multi-modal logistics vision, the project will integrate road, rail, and port connectivity, facilitating smoother cargo movement—especially for iron ore and other mineral exports from Odisha’s hinterlands. This is expected to enhance the state’s competitiveness in national and global supply chains.

The corridor will also decongest existing arterial roads, offering relief to daily commuters and improving air quality in urban centers. Additionally, the project is expected to generate thousands of jobs during its construction phase and stimulate ancillary industries such as logistics, warehousing, and tourism.

With Odisha emerging as a key player in India’s mineral economy, this ring road is more than just a transport upgrade—it’s a strategic investment in the state’s future.
