Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha is witnessing a wave of internal dissent following the appointment of new youth and student wing presidents without broader consultation. Party insiders allege that VK Pandian, a close aide to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, is now exercising unilateral control over key decisions—prompting unrest among senior leaders and grassroots cadres.

Traditionally, major decisions within the BJD were taken after deliberation with senior leadership. However, recent developments suggest a shift in power dynamics, with Pandian reportedly issuing directives that party members are compelled to follow. His growing dominance has led to accusations of favouritism and the emergence of a “Pandian coterie,” sidelining long-standing party voices.

The appointment of Chinmaya Sahu as Youth Wing President and Ipsita Sahu as Student Wing President has triggered protests from both factions. While leaders like Subhashish Khuntia openly criticized the lack of transparency in BJD, Chinmaya Sahu’s remark over rise of dynastic politics triggered fresh controversy.

It is being said that this remark indirectly targets over 50 leaders within the party who are perceived to benefit from dynastic politics. His comment has also created discomfort for BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, who is widely recognized as the son of Biju Patnaik.
