Cuttack, Nov 5: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the Historic Baliyatra Cuttack 2025 at Gadagadia Ghat on the banks of Mahanadi River here on Wednesday evening, marking the beginning of Odisha’s grand maritime heritage festival.
Arriving in a traditional ‘boita’ named ‘Kalinga Tarangini’,
the CM ceremonially opened the fairground, celebrating centuries-old trade ties
with Southeast Asia.
Expansive Festive Grounds
This year’s Baliyatra spans 60 acres—up from 38 last year—making it the largest edition yet. The fair features 2,500 stalls, including 530 by ORMAS, showcasing handicrafts, household items, textiles, and regional delicacies.
Cultural and Artistic Attractions
Visitors are treated to a 3D anamorphic screen, electric
dhol performances, a vintage car exhibition, filigree art gallery, 5D theatre,
and water sports. A laser light show will illuminate the Mahanadi for three
nights.
A major highlight is the floating of 21,000 sal-leaf
miniature boats on Kartik Purnima, crafted by tribal artisans from Mayurbhanj
and lit with terracotta diyas—symbolizing eco-conscious celebration of Odisha’s
maritime legacy.
MSME Pavilion Debuts
For the first time, a dedicated MSME pavilion with more than 100
stalls promotes local entrepreneurship, connecting small industries with a
wider audience.

Star-Studded Cultural Evenings
The inaugural evening featured performances at Baishnab Pani Mancha, including Odissi dance by Gunjan Dance Academy and Cuttack Sur Mandir. Indonesian fusion band Balwan & The Batun Ethnic captivated audiences with traditional dance. Puri’s Malakhamba Trust closed the night with a thrilling acrobatic display.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The event was graced by Indonesian Ambassador Ina H.
Krishnamurti, Odisha Language & Culture Minister Surjyabanshi Suraj, and
MPs Bhartruhari Mahtab, Baijayant Panda, among others. Senior bureaucrats and
local MLAs also attended.
