Cuttack, Oct 6: In response to recent unrest during Maa Durga idol immersion in Cuttack, the city police have enforced a stringent 36-hour curfew starting Sunday night at 10 pm.

 

The curfew spans across 13 sensitive zones including Dargha Bazaar, Manglabag, Cantonment, Purighat, Lalbag, Bidanasi, Markatnagar, CDA Phase-2, Malgodown, and Badambadi police station areas.

 

Additional regions like Jagatpur, Bayalish Mouza, and Cuttack Sadar have also been brought under curfew.

 

Police Commissioner S. Dev Dutta Singh confirmed that while government offices, emergency services, and schools are exempted from the restrictions, public gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations are strictly prohibited. The situation is currently under control, and law enforcement has been instructed to use force if necessary against any disruptive elements.

The commissioner clarified that rumours circulating on social media about fatalities during the immersion-related disturbances are entirely false. Four individuals were injured, of whom three have been discharged from SCB Medical College and Hospital. The remaining person is under treatment but is out of danger.

 

Authorities have warned that any involvement in violence will be met with strict legal action. Efforts are underway to identify and prosecute those responsible for the clashes. The police have also urged citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation and to cooperate in maintaining peace.
