Bhubaneswar, Nov 10: In a historic moment for Odisha, President Droupadi Murmu is set to address the opening day of the fifth session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on November 27.
The announcement, made via an official notification from the Assembly secretariat, marks a significant return for Murmu to the very institution where she once served as a legislator and Minister.
Winter Session Calendar
The winter session of the Assembly will run from November 27 to December 31, with breaks for holidays and Sundays. No other legislative business is scheduled for the day of the President’s address, allowing full focus on the ceremonial proceedings.
The calendar outlines 19 days for official business and five days for private members’ business, including Bills and Resolutions. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the first Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025–26 on November 28.

A Return to Her Roots
President Murmu, a native of Odisha, was elected twice to the Assembly from the Rairangpur constituency in 2000 and 2004. She served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Transport from 2000 to 2002, and later for Fisheries and Animal Resources until 2004. Her contributions were recognized with the Nilakantha S Award for Best MLA in 2007.
Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said that the state government had formally invited the President to address the House, honoring her legacy and connection to the state’s political landscape.
Preparations Underway
In view of the President’s visit, the Assembly premises are undergoing refurbishments, including fresh paint and structural repairs, to ensure a dignified setting for the address.
