Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: The Raj Bhavan in Odisha has officially been renamed as 'Lok Bhavan', marking a significant shift in the state’s administrative identity. A formal notification announcing the change was issued on Monday by the Governor’s Secretariat.
The renaming was approved by Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (CS Division), Government of India. As per the notification, the new name comes into effect from December 1, 2025 for all official purposes.
Sharing the update on X, the Governor posted:
“Happy to share a meaningful milestone for Odisha as Raj Bhavan is now Lok Bhavan, a name that truly reflects the aspirations of our people. Inspired by the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and guided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, this change reinforces our commitment to transparency, accessibility, and a stronger public connect. Lok Bhavan now stands as a vibrant space for public engagement and inclusive progress, reflecting our resolve to build deeper participation in governance. I am honoured to lead this transition for Odisha.”
Governor Kambhampati noted that the new name underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening public connection and participation. He said the shift reflects a broader national vision of fostering transparency, accessibility, and citizen empowerment.
