Atlanta, Jan 24: A 51-year-old Indian man has been arrested in the United States after allegedly shooting his wife and three relatives dead inside a residence in Georgia, authorities said. Three children, including the accused’s 12-year-old child, survived the incident after hiding in a closet.
Police identified the accused as Vijay Kumar. The shooting, described as stemming from a domestic dispute, was reported to authorities at around 2.30 am on Friday at a house in the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court, according to local media reports.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found four adults with fatal gunshot wounds inside the residence. Kumar’s vehicle was still parked in the driveway, prompting police to deploy a K-9 unit to search the surrounding area. Kumar was later tracked to a nearby wooded area, where he was arrested without incident.
The Gwinnett County Police identified the victims as Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, of Atlanta, and three relatives — Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38 — all residents of Lawrenceville.
Police said Kumar’s child placed the emergency call to 911, providing critical information that helped officers reach the scene quickly. The children were unharmed and have since been taken into the care of a family member.
