When Sutak Kaal Starts

In India, Chandra Grahan will begin at 3:20 pm on March 3 and end at 6:46 pm. This year's first lunar eclipse will last 3 hours and 27 minutes. The Sutak kaal will start from 06:23 AM in the morning and it will end with the Eclipse.

As per Hindu tradition, the Sutak Kaal is an inauspicious period associated with eclipses—begins nine hours before the eclipse and continues until it ends. During this time, temples remain closed, rituals are suspended, and devotees observe strict guidelines.

What To Do & What No To Do

The Sutak Kaal is considered a period of heightened spiritual sensitivity. Devotees refrain from eating, cooking, or performing auspicious activities, focusing instead on prayer and chanting. The closure of temples across India underscores the importance of maintaining purity during this phase. Astrologically, the eclipse is occurring in the Leo zodiac sign (Singh Rashi) and Purva Phalguni Nakshatra, which many believe will influence spiritual practices and festive observances.

Beyond its religious dimension, the lunar eclipse is a striking astronomical event. As the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon, it will appear reddish or copper-colored, creating the dramatic “Blood Moon” effect visible across India. For millions of devotees, the Sutak Kaal serves as a reminder of the deep connection between cosmic events and spiritual life.
