Banki, Dec 5: Tension prevailed in Baonra Nuasahi under Kainmundi outpost of Banki police station limits after two youths allegedly roamed through the village in an inebriated state and made obscene gestures at women and young girls, a source said Friday.

According to the source, the duo arrived on a motorcycle after consuming excessive alcohol on Thursday afternoon and began moving around the inner lanes of the village. Whenever they spotted women or young girls, they allegedly passed lewd gestures and behaved indecently. Villagers said such behaviour had been continuing for some time, but the incident became intolerable Thursday when the youths allegedly targeted multiple women in the span of a few minutes.

Unable to bear the harassment, a group of women informed the police. However, as police arrival got delayed, the villagers themselves caught hold of the two youths, thrashed them, and made them sit at the village mandap until the police reached the spot. The accused were then handed over to Banki Police.

Sources said both youths belong to the nearby Bhagipur village.
