Bengaluru, Jan 3: A woman doctor was allegedly sexually harassed by an unidentified miscreant near her paying guest (PG) hostel in AGB Layout, Chikkabanavara, late Friday night. The incident, which has sparked outrage, was captured on CCTV cameras installed near the hostel entrance.
According to police, the doctor had returned from duty at a private hospital and was walking towards her PG accommodation after alighting from an auto-rickshaw. The accused, riding a scooter, initially approached her asking for directions. Moments later, he parked the vehicle, returned on foot, and allegedly touched her inappropriately while verbally abusing her.
Despite the victim’s resistance and loud cries for help, the accused managed to flee the spot. The CCTV footage shows him taking a U-turn, approaching the woman again, and embracing her before escaping.
An FIR has been registered at Soladevanahalli police station, and the victim’s statement has been recorded. Police officials confirmed that the case is being treated with utmost seriousness and that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspect using CCTV footage and technical evidence.

This incident comes amid a spate of sexual harassment cases reported in Bengaluru and Karnataka in recent weeks. On December 25, police arrested a delivery executive, Manoj Chand (27), for allegedly harassing a woman at a mall in Mahadevapura. Similarly, three youths were arrested on December 24 for stalking and harassing a woman riding a two-wheeler from Jayanagar Metro Station to BTM Layout.
In another case on December 31, a young woman passenger in Karwar district recorded a video of a youth allegedly harassing her on a moving bus. The video, which went viral, drew widespread appreciation for her courage and prompted swift police action.
Authorities have urged women not to remain silent in such situations and assured that stringent measures are being taken to curb harassment. (IANS)
