Balangir, Feb 25: Normal life was hit in Loisinga area in Bolangir district as locals began a 12-hour bandh in protest against State Government's apathy in declaring Loisinga as a notified area council (NAC).
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared the formation of 34 NACs across 20 districts and upgradation of five existing NACs to municipalities yesterday.
Though people of Loisingha had been demanding NAC status to their town for long, it was not found in the yesterday's list, creating strong resentment among them.
While Congress activists burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister yesterday evening in protest, locals across the party lines under the agies of Anchalika Bikash Parishad staged a shutdown this morning to press the government to declare Loisinga as a NAC at the earliest.

✨Earlier, the Anchalika Bikash Parishad had resorted to road blockade on NH-26 many times. Besides, they force-closed government office every last Wednesday to press for an NAC status for Loisinga.
Due to the bandh, shops and bazaars, educatioal institutions and government offices have remained closed.
Vehicular movement has been stopped. The shutdown started at 6 am will continue till 6 pm, said Parishad functionaries.
