42% Villages In Odisha Have No Piped Drinking Water Supply Facility

Plans are afoot to supply piped drinking water to all villages in Odisha by the year 2025, While 58 percent villages have the facility by now, work is going on in the rest 42% villages on a planned bases,  Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pradeep Kumar Amat told the Assembly today. 

Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: Plans are afoot to supply piped drinking water to all villages in Odisha by the year 2025, While 58 percent villages have the facility by now, work is going on in the rest 42% villages on a planned bases,  Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pradeep Kumar Amat told the Assembly today. 

The Minister, however, said the villages having water sources and land problems will get piped water in 2025.  

Replying to questions from Members, Amat said piped drinking water had been provided to 58% of villages by March 2023. Tube wells are being dug in villages, where pipes are yet to be laid. District Collectors, DRDA PD, and Executive Engineers have been directed in this regard.

The Minister also told the House that tube wells will be provided to new human habitations with a minimum of 70 residents. Tube wells will be set up on the inquiry report of the district Collector or local people's representative.  

People have been advised to call the helpline number 1916 and lodge grievances before the administration regarding the water problem, the Minister said.
