Sambalpur, June 11: A devotional atmosphere was marked at Shiva Temples across Sambalpur district with Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati tying the nuptial knot on the occasion of auspicious occasion of 'Shital Shasthi' early on Tuesday morning.   

According to Hindu pandits, Shital Shasthi marks marriage or heavenly union between  Shiva and Shakti or Purusha and Prakruti. 
On the day, Lord Shiva withdraws His Rudra physique and takes the peaceful form of Mahadev. The lord, known as Purush, ties a nuptial knot with Devi Parvati (Prakruti) for sustenance of the nature. 

Jageswar Baba of Mudipada, Shitaleswar Baba of Bada Bazaar, Gudeshwar of Durgapali wedded. 

Locals celebrated the wedding of the divine entities in a big way. Mahadev, the god of gods, decked up as a bridegroom moved along with His barat in a procession to Devi Parvati's parental house amid the beating of drums and trumpets and the bursting of firecrackers. The Barat comprised Gods, Danabs (Demigods), Kinnars (Transgender) and Manabs (Human Beings).

Feasts and cultural programs were organized at each place to mark the wedding celebration. Devotees were happy to see the yellowish face (Due to the use of turmeric paste) of Maa Parvati.    

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan conveyed his wished to the people of Sambalpur and Odisha on this auspicious occasion of Shital Shasthi.
