Das has sent his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Sarat Pattanayak.

Biswabhusan has contested as an MLA from the Congress party in 2009 and 2019 and came second with 58,893 votes in 2009 and 46,206 votes in 2019.
Biswabhusan was earlier the Youth Congress vice president and PCC general secretary.
