Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to restrict the use of conch sign in promotion of Odisha Government programmes as the sign is ruling BJD's party symbol. 

The party also urged the CEC to recover the huge amounts of money, already spent on promotion of the Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha programmes, from the BJD's party fund. 

'We (a party team) met the CEC and placed our demands yesterday," BJP State general secretary Dr. Jatin Mohanty told a Press conference here today. 

Mohanty alleged that conch sign is being used in government programmes since October 10 for which hundreds of crores of rupees have been spent from the State exchequer. He said the State government has violated laws by using conch sign in governmet programmes. 

Para 16-A of the Election Symbol Reservation and Allotment Order- 1968 has been violated by the Odisha Government, he alleged. 

"Stringent action against the ruling BJD should be taken for violation of eleciton rules. The State government should be asked not to use the conch sign in government programmes. Hundres of crores of rupees already spent should be recovered from the BJD party fund as soon as possibly," demanded the BJD leader.
