A young labourer from Odisha's Nabarangpur district found dead under mysterious circumstances near a railway track in Telangana on Wednesday night.

Nabarangpur, Feb 29: In a tragic incident, a young bonded labourer from Odisha's Nabarangpur district found dead under mysterious circumstances near a railway track in Telangana on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Khirasindhu Majhi, a resident of Patkhalia village under Chandahandi policelimits in Nabarangpur district.

AS per reports, Majhi had gone to Telangana two months ago to work in a brick kiln. The Government Railway Police recovered his body from a railway track last night and handed it over to the concerned owner of the brick kiln.

After getting information, family members of Majhi alleged that he was tortured and killed in Telangana.

The family members lodged an FIR at Chandahandi police station, alleging Khirasindhu was murdered. They also demanded proper investigation into the case.

In a similar incident, one Goutam Digal of Phiringia area in Odisha's Kandhamal district had gone to Rajasthan six months ago to work in a private company.

On February 24, Digal was admitted to a hospital after he complained of chest pain. Later he was declared "dead" at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the poverty-ridden family members requested the Kandhamal District Collector to take the necessary steps to bring the body to their native place.

Notably, the problem of bonded labour continues to haunt the Odisha government.

Human-trafficking has been on the rise in backward districts like Nabarangpur and Kandhamal as the State government allegedly failed to provide employment opportunities to the needy people.

Thousands of workers in distress are often lured by middlemen who offer cash advances in return for their labour for a fixed time without being paid in  other states, often as a way of repaying their alleged debt.
