Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: In a shocking incident, an Ola cab driver was arrested for looting a passenger in Bhubaneswar who had recently returned from abroad, police said Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Naga Paramanik. Chandrasekharpur Police arrested him within 8 hours after the occurrence of crime and recovered valuables worth nearly Rs 20 lakh from the possession of Naga.
According to the police, the victim had returned from Thailand and booked an Ola cab for travel on Wednesday. While passing through the Chandrasekharpur area, the driver deliberately stopped the vehicle, claiming that the car had developed a technical problem. He then asked the passenger to step out of the vehicle.
Taking advantage of the situation, the driver fled with the passenger's belongings, including gold, diamond accessories, and foreign currency. The victim was left stranded on the roadside. Subsequently, he approached the police to lodge a complaint.
Acting swiftly, Chandrasekharpur Police launched a probe and nabbed the accused driver. The stolen items were recovered during the arrest.
