Bhubaneswar, June 25: The ongoing demolition activities at former Jajpur MLA and BJD's organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das’ government quarters in Bhubaneswar sparked a row, after the ex-MLA on Tuesday said he would hand over the quarters in the same condition as it was allotted to him.
At least 20 people have been engaged in the demolition work which is underway at the government quarters of the former BJD MLA.
According to sources, Pranab Prakash Das, also known as Bobby Das, was allotted the government quarter No- VIIIMR-1 at Unit 6 area in the State Capital after he was elected to State Legislative Assembly from Jajpur constituency in 2019.
Later, Das allegedly occupied three government quarters adjacent to the allotted residence illegally and converted them into one. He allegedly constructed a four-storey building including an underground floor, a luxurious wooden cottage and a swimming pool at his official residence premises worth crores of rupees.
In the 2024 general elections, Bobby Das lost the Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat to senior BJP leader and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
As Bobby Das has to vacate the government quarters following his defeat in the recently concluded elections, the demolition activity was initiated by the BJD organisational secretary, sources said.

Now, questions are being raised about the legality and authenticity of the highly expensive renovation work done by the BJD leader in his official residence.
Speaking about the ongoing demolition activities, the BJD organisational secretary said that government quarters are returned in the same condition in which these are allotted.
Meanwhile, RTI activist Prakash Das vehemently criticised the illegal construction of buildings and cottages at the premises of Das' government quarters.
The RTI activist also sought a thorough probe into the matter and demanded a stringent action against the BJD leader for misusing the "public exchequer".
