Balasore, Dec 17: In a shocking incident, an elderely woman was set ablaze and burnt alive by none other than her son and daughter-in-law in Belada village under the Kamarda police station limits in Balasore district. 

The deceased has been identified as Manju Rani Behera, the wife of Khudiram Behera. 

"Manju Rani was murdered by her son and daughter-in-law for her insurance which had matured recently. The couple beat her to death first. Then thinking that she died they burnt her using kerosene," said Sandhya Rani Pramanik, a villager.

The family members, however, said that she has committed suicide. 

Looking at the condition in which she died, it can be said that the woman has not committed suicide. 

The villagers have gathered in front of her house in large numbers.
