Bhubaneswar/Bengaluru, Dec 5: In a rare and heartwarming incident, a newlywed couple from Odisha attended their own wedding reception virtually after their flight to Bengaluru was cancelled, family sources said on Friday.
The couple, both software engineers working in Bengaluru,
had tied the knot in Bhubaneswar on November 23. Their reception was scheduled
for December 3 at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi, Karnataka, but unexpected flight
delays and cancellations forced them to join the celebration online.
Plans Disrupted
All arrangements for the reception had been completed well in advance — from hotel bookings to the food menu. The couple, Sangram Das from Bhubaneswar and Medha K. Shirasagar from Hubballi, had planned to travel to Bengaluru on December 2 and then proceed to Hubballi. However, their Indigo flight was first delayed and then cancelled early on December 3, leaving them stranded in Bhubaneswar.

Family Reaction
The bride’s mother expressed her disappointment: “On Tuesday, the flight was delayed, and we hoped to travel on Wednesday. But at 4 a.m., the flight was suddenly cancelled. We were helpless. We had invited hundreds of relatives and friends, so cancelling the reception was impossible. Finally, the couple joined online.”
A Talking Point
The incident has sparked widespread discussion, with many calling it a creative solution to an unexpected problem. While the couple missed being physically present, their virtual participation ensured that the celebration went ahead without disruption.
