Cuttack, Nov 27: The much-awaited historic Baliyatra is all set to begin with pomp and gaiety at Gadagadia Ghat of the Mahanadi river in the millennium city here today.
The fair is called historic because it has a connection with our rich maritime history. The festival begins on the auspicious Kartika Purnima day.
People of Odisha celebrates its rich heritage of maritime trade with people taking holy dips and floating boats in sea, rivers, ponds, canals and streams and visiting temples early in the morning all across the State.
While lakhs of revellers are expected to throng the city to enjoy Baliyatra, the district and CMC administrations have made all required arrangements for making the grand event incident-free. Light and sound Show along Mahanadi riverbank and Tunnel Aquarium is likely to attract the visitors much this year.
Hundreds of stalls selling varieties of products from household articles to vehicles have been put up on the ground. Revellers will have opportunities to relish dishes of various kinds to be sold at food stalls all around. A dish, called Thunka Puri, is considered special at the Cuttack Bali Yatra.
Young ones make their visit to the fair memorable by enjoying different joy rides including merry-go-round rides, break dance rides and ferry wheels. For the entertainment of visitors, there are stages where different types of cultural activities are also organised.
