Police Raid / Illegal Firecracker Unit Busted in Puri Ahead of Diwali

Puri, Oct 18: As Diwali approaches, preparations are in full swing across Odisha, with people gearing up to celebrate the festival of lights. However, amidst the festive cheer, a disturbing incident has surfaced from Naraharipur village under Puri Sadar police limits, where illegal firecracker manufacturing was being carried out.
Acting on a tip-off from reliable sources, the Inspector-in-Charge of Puri Sadar Police Station conducted a surprise raid on the residence of Srikant Mishra, who was allegedly preparing banned firecrackers in his backyard.
During the raid, police seized six sacks of powerful
country-made bombs and destroyed several others by immersing them in water.

The seized explosives were reportedly being prepared for sale ahead of Diwali, posing a serious threat to public safety. The police have confirmed that the firecrackers were being manufactured without any legal license or safety measures, violating the guidelines issued by the authorities.

Srikant Mishra was arrested on the spot and has been produced in court under charges related to illegal explosive manufacturing and public endangerment. The police have intensified surveillance in the region to prevent similar activities and ensure a safe Diwali celebration.
Authorities have urged citizens to purchase only green and certified firecrackers.
With Diwali just days away, the Puri district administration
has reiterated its commitment to enforcing safety norms and cracking down on
illegal firecracker operations.
