Illegally Tampered Weighing Machines Seized In Kendrapara
Kendrapada, Jan 16 : In a major crackdown on unscrupulous traders, the weights and measures department in Odisha's Central Division seized 22 illegally tampered weighing machines and imposed a fine of over Rs 3 lakh on the errant traders.
The action was taken following complaints from the public that some traders in the Thakurhat and Keshapur markets of the town were using tampered weighing machines to cheat customers.
A team of officials from the weights and measures department conducted raids on the shops of the errant traders and seized the tampered weighing machines. The traders were also fined for using illegal weighing machines.The action by the weights and measures department has been welcomed by the public. They expressed hope that the department will continue to take such action to curb the menace of illegal weighing machines.
