Jharsuguda, June 8: With the change of government in the state, various projects are thrown into uncertainty. Jharsuguda district shows a clear picture of how much loss the state is bearing due to the LAccMi buses' operations. 

According to the official data, the Laxmi buses are operating through 85-90 per cent losses in the district since the initiative's inception. Discussions have started in different quarters about what will happen to these buses now.

According to the information obtained from the transport office, LAccMi buses began its operations in the district February 19 this year. A total of 19 buses were announced for 5 blocks and 3 towns of Jharsuguda district. However, 14 buses had arrived in the first phase, while the remaining 5 buses are yet to come.

The buses are travelling 2800 km per day on an average, consuming 311.11 liters of diesel which carries an estimated cost of over Rs 28,000. If we go by the data, diesel worth more than Rs 34,34,000 has been used in past four months.

Similarly, 22 drivers and 31 conductors have been appointed to manage these buses. Around Rs 14,52,000 have been spent on the staff in 4 months. So far, more than 66 lakh rupees have been spent on LAccMi buses.

And what is concerning is that the collection from the buses is only Rs 7,47,585. According to the collected data, the February's collection was Rs 20,300 while carrying 4017 passengers, including 2,742 females. 

Rs 1,50,030 was collected in March as the buses carried 22,243 passengers, including about 14,000 females, while April's data shows collection of around Rs 2,40,700 from 34,027 passengers, including 22,009 females.

In May, the collection was Rs 3,00,855 from 40,757 passengers, including 26,300 females. In June so far, around Rs 35,700 has been collected from 4,900 passenges, including 3,215 females. 

In such a situation, the question arises that 'How much more loss will the government bear?', only time will tell.
