Nayagarh, Dec 12: A 22-year old man was arrested in Odisha's Nayagarh district for alleged kidnaping, raping and torturing a minor girl for nearly 10 months, and betraying her, police sources said on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Biswanath Kahanr, a resident of Lembugochha village under Daspalla police station limits Nayagarh district.

According to sources, Biswanath fell in love with the 14-year-old girl at a fair in Daspalla. After having a relationship with the minor girl, he took the girl to his home on the promise of marriage and kept her for ten months. Later, he allegedly abandoned the minor girl.

The victim's father lodged a complaint against Biswanath at Daspalla police station and stated that the accused forcibly took his daughter and tortured her for 10 months, and later abandoned her in a forest. However, the girl managed to reach her parents' house and narrated her ordeal to the family members, sources said.

Based on the complaint, Daspalla Police arrested the accused person and produced in a court.

 "The girl is in trauma after the incident,” her father said.
