Kandhamal, Dec 12: In a shocking incident, a man committed suicide after allegedly murdering his wife with an axe in Kajuripanga village of Pliheri Gram Panchayat under Daringbadi police station limits in Kandhamal district on Saturday night. 

The man has been identified as Jaysen Mallik. 

The neighbours knocked their door on Sunday morning. When no one opened the door or responsed they peeped into Mallik's house from the backyard window. 

His wife was found lying in a pool of blood, said a villager who then informed the police.

Police reached the spot and rescued her in a critical condition. She was rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC). 

Some villagers found Mallik's dead body hanging from a tree in the forest on Monday morning. Police have seized the body and the murder weapon.

According to preliminary investigation, after killing his wife, Mallik feared of being caught by the police and thus committed suicide. 

However, the reason behind such an incident is yet to unfold.
