Berhampur, Dec 5: Miscreants allegedly set fire on harvested paddy crop at Manapur village under Tarasingi police station limits in Odisha's Ganjam district on Monday night.

As per reports, three farmers -Jagannath Pradhan, Santosh Pradhan and Jayram Pradhan- of the village harvested paddy crop and stacked it on the roadside of Gereda-Manpur road in order to prevent crop damage due to the cyclone Michaung.

At around 11 PM, the farmers reportedly noticed fire at their paddy stack and rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flame. Harvested paddy crops worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes, the farmers alleged.

The farmers also managed to catch one of the miscreants from the spot.

After getting information, Tarasingi Police reached the spot and detained the accused and started an investigation into the matter.

Gereda RI and Sarpanch also sent reports of crop damage to the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved farmers sought adequate compensation for the crop loss.
