Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: Popular Odia music composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar is showing hopeful signs of improvement after a long and difficult medical battle at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, doctors said on Friday.

According to the hospital sources, Majumdar begins to recover from life-threatening complications that kept him in a coma and under intensive care at AIIMS Bhubaneswar since early September.

Majumdar’s Health Struggles

54-year-old Abhijit Majumdar was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar emergency on September 4 in a comatose state and placed on ventilator support. He faced multiple health challenges, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease. Doctors diagnosed Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome, pneumonia, bloodstream infection (MDRO-Acinetobacter), dangerous electrolyte imbalances, and vitamin deficiencies.

Despite critical setbacks, intensive treatment managed to resolve his pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and correct nutritional deficiencies.

Off Ventilator, Stable Vitals

On September 9, Majumdar required a tracheostomy due to prolonged ventilation needs. After gradually being weaned off support, he was shifted to the Medicine Ward. Although a setback on October 11 sent him back to the ICU for further intensive therapy, his clinical status has since improved. He is now stable, out of the ventilator support, and medical staff note new slight neurological gains like spontaneous eye opening and responding to simple commands, AIIMS Bhubaneswar said.

Gradual Recovery & Prayers

Majumdar remains in the Medicine Ward (E6-Isolation Room), carefully monitored by AIIMS specialists. His progress, albeit slow, has inspired hope among music lovers and well-wishers throughout Odisha.

Doctors urge supporters not to spread rumours, emphasizing that every sign of improvement is hard-won and precious. Concerted medical efforts and the positive energy of countless admirers are fueling his path back toward recovery.

Fans and colleagues across the state continue to pray for his full recovery.
