Malkangiri, Jan 9: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Malkangiri airport here on Tuesday.

After inaugurating the airport, the Chief Minister visited Terminal 2 of the airport.

Odisha's Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu, 5T Chairman VK Pandian, Nabarangpur Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Majhi, special development council (SDC) advisor Pradeep Majhi, MLAs Aditya Madhi and Purna Chandra Baka were, among others, present on the occasion.

Situated at Katelguda under Goudaguda panchayat on the outskirts of Malkangiri town, the airport has been built over 94.5 hectare of land for Rs 33 crore.

On Sunday, the trial run of a nine-seater VT-100 double-engine flight was conducted successfully at the Malkangiri airport.

According to sources, the nine-seater aircraft will operate between Malkangiri and Bhubaneswar in the first phase. Later, larger aircraft will be pressed into service, sources said.
