Mayurbhanj, Jul 29: In a chilling incident that has shocked the local community, a man from Sarapankha Nuagaon under Kuliana police limits in Mayurbhanj district has been arrested for the brutal murder of his wife and mother-in-law.
The accused, Debasish Patra, allegedly killed his wife Sonali Dalai and her mother Sumata Dalai, buried their bodies in the backyard of his house, and kept the crime hidden for nearly two weeks.
The victims had returned to Debasish’s home on July 12 after staying at their parental residence due to ongoing domestic disputes.
Following their sudden disappearance, Sonali’s family filed a missing persons report, suspecting foul play. After 17 days of silence, the Kuliana police raided Debasish’s residence and uncovered the buried bodies after intense interrogation.

The accused reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting he murdered both women on July 15 and buried them to conceal the act.
Police have seized the bodies for post-mortem and initiated a detailed investigation. Debasish is currently in custody, and charges under Section 302 of the IPC (murder) are being framed.
