Odisha Govt Constitutes Law Commission, Appoints Justice Biswanath Rath As Chairman

Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: The Odisha government constituted a
5-member Law Commission with Justice Biswanath Rath as its chairperson,
officials said on Friday.
In a notification, the Law department said the State government has appointed former judge of Orissa High Court, Justice Biswanath Rath as Chairman of Law Commission and four others as its Members.
Advocate General Pitambar Acharya and Principal Secretary, Law department have been appointed as Ex-Officio Members of the Commission.
Senior advocates Surya Prakash Mishra and Soura Chandra Mohapatra have been appointed as Members of the Commission, while additional secretary, Law department will be the Member Secretary.

✨According to the official sources, the Law Commission has been constituted to review the existing state laws as well as the laws pertaining to the State in the Concurrent List.
It will examine the necessity of continuance of the various state laws and recommend withdrawal, substitution and modification in part or in whole.
The Law Commission will also examine any proposal for modification in the existing laws and to invite suggestions from eminent persons or legal experts on the proposals for modifications. It will offer suggestions to the state government for rectification of defects in the existing laws and repeal of laws which are no longer relevant.
